Epitaph Records signs Georgia's VEARA

Official Press Release:

Epitaph Records, in partnership with Running Man Records, is proud to announce the signing of pop-punk group Veara.  The Augusta, GA based band recently wrapped recording on their new studio album, which is expected for release this spring.  Fans can get an early listen to the first track, "We Have A Body Count," from the new record now on the band's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/veara.

The pop-punk foursome consisting of Bradley Wyrosdick (Vocals), Patrick Bambrick (Vocals/Guitar), Bryan Kerr (Vocals/Bass) and Brittany Harrell (Drums) formed in 2003 and have since self-released an EP and full-length album and have toured with bands like The Maine, DangerRadio and Powerspace.  In 2009 the band contacted Jeremy McKinnon and Joshua Woodard of hot pop-punk outfit A Day To Remember, who were looking for bands to work with on their newly formed company Running Man Records, and the rest is history.

"The dudes in Veara called me one night to see if I was in town and if I wanted to stop by and check out their new demos they had just wrapped up," explains Woodard.  "I got them to burn me a CD, and within 5 minutes of leaving them I knew they were the band I wanted to work with." In January of 2010, Veara entered Wade Studios in Ocala, FL, with McKinnon in the producer's chair and Andrew Wade tracking and mixing, where they recorded their forthcoming album.  Looking for a partner to release the record, McKinnon and Woodard contacted Epitaph's owner and president Brett Gurewitz who was immediately interested and inked a deal with the band and Running Man to release the album.

"Signing with Epitaph is something that we used to dream of," says guitarist Bambrick.  "We cannot express how stoked we are to be signing with a label that we have been fans of for years. Epitaph has put out many timeless albums, and we are stoked to be a part of an awesome family."

Catch the band live on their upcoming tour with A Day To Remember, August Burns Red, Silverstein and Enter Shikari this April. Stay tuned for more info on Veara's debut album from Epitaph Records and Running Man Records!

Metal Blade Records signs RETURN TO EARTH

Metal Blade Records signs hard rock band RETURN TO EARTH featuring Chris Pennie of Coheed & Cambria (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan).

RETURN TO EARTH comments: "After self-releasing our first album, Captains of Industry, and discovering a heavier, more intense sound during the recording sessions for Automata, the three of us agreed that the scope of the band's vision would benefit from the support of a bigger, like-minded record label - one that had similar musical influences and an appreciation for our DIY 'studio geek' mentality. Also, a label we felt we could trust and depend upon to promote our songs properly. Metal Blade was always at the top of our very short wish list of potential partners, and so we were thrilled to discover that Brian Slagel and Metal Blade were as enamored with us as we were with them. Signing with Metal Blade is an affirmation of our hard work, and we are psyched to have them in our corner for the release of Automata!"

RETURN TO EARTH's music is highlighted by the awe-inspiring precision of Pennie's backbeat, Aveni's catchy rock hooks, and Scalzo's sing-and-scream, harmony-heavy vocals. Explains Scalzo, "We're al passionate about music, and have a shared affinity for classic metal & modern-day rock with lush production. We're three guys with three different perspectives - but you can hear all those influences in production. We're three guys with three different perspectives - but you can hear all those influences in our own tunes, loud & clear." As with all great bands, when RETURN TO EARTH make music together the disparate influences and personalities coalesce into a single vision. Adds Scalzo, "Most of all, we each draw inspiration from the other guys' strengths - whether a riff, a rhythm line, or a vocal hook - it doesn't take much to ignite our respective fires, and that usually culminates in something heavy different, and ultimately, inspirational. We're all really proud of this record."

Metal Blade Records will release Return To Earth's second full-length album, Automata.

It is with great pride that Nuclear Blast proudly announces the signing of legendary Bay Area thrashers FORBIDDEN!

“We are very proud to announce that FORBIDDEN has signed to Nuclear Blast Records! Ultimately, we all knew that there is NO better label in the world to handle Metal and bring it to the masses with authority. For the last year, we have been intensely working on our craft while re-examining our past with a perspective we'd never had before. Our vision is clear and we know exactly who and what we are today. FORBIDDEN is in an amazing creative space and we can't wait for everyone to hear it! We began recording on March 1st.

We must thank Jaap Wagemaker and everyone else at Nuclear Blast for making their enthusiasm known to us since we've committed to writing this record. Also, there are so many other amazing friends that helped us along the way and we appreciate everything you've done for us to get FORBIDDEN back into a position of strength. If you feel in your bones that you are one of them, then you definitely are! Thank you all so much.” – Craig Locicero [guitars], Russ Anderson [vocals], Matt Camacho [bass], Mark Hernandez [drums], and Steve Smyth [bass].

Added Nuclear Blast A&R Manager Jaap Wagemaker: “We are totally stoked to announce that FORBIDDEN has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast!!! It is no secret that the staff of Nuclear Blast has a soft spot for thrash metal! We all grew up here with classics such as Forbidden Evil and Twisted into Form! I am sure you can imagine that we were totally thrilled when we heard the news that FORBIDDEN were coming back and after seeing them live several times since then and seeing them doing a smoking rendition of ‘Twisted into Form’ it was totally clear to us! FORBIDDEN needs a new home and that home is called Nuclear Blast! This feeling became even bigger after Craig had sent us the 2 new songs last year!

Needless to say that a dream is coming true! The future belongs to FORBIDDEN and together with Nuclear Blast, we will bring the band back on the metal map! What the future will bring? I cannot tell you ‘cause it is….. FORBIDDEN!” San Francisco’s FORBIDDEN debuted onto the worldwide scene with their 1988 Combat Records debut, Forbidden Evil, featuring artwork by Kent Mathieu (Heathen/Exhorder/ Autopsy/Artillery). A LOSS FOR WORDS signs to Paper + Plastick Records

Boston’s pop-punk quintet A LOSS FOR WORDS have announced their Paper + Plastick Records debut will be an as-yet-untitled Motown covers album on May 11th. In the label's typical fashion, the album will be available digitally through the Paper + Plastick webstore, and physically on vinyl and CD.

“Our band listens to anything from American Nightmare to Coldplay to New Found Glory, and everything in between,” says vocalist Matty Arsenault. “I grew up listening to R&B and have always wanted to do something like this! We just felt it was the perfect time to try something new and have some fun with it. We’re very excited for everyone to hear us spice up some classic R&B hits!”

A Loss For Words recorded the 10-song cover album with Chris Curran at Webster Lake Studios in Boston, and reworked classic R&B and Motown songs from the Jackson 5, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and more. A full tracklisting will be revealed shortly. As a teaser for the upcoming album, the band has been performing select covers on the road, including their acoustic take on The Temptations’ “My Girl,” which can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/loss-words. The album version is a pop-punk gem and features additional vocals from Jordan Brown of Set Your Goals, while fellow Boston-ites Dan O’Connor and Alan Day of Four Year Strong make a vocal appearance on the Jackson 5 track.

This album marks the band’s first release with the assistance of a US label, having self-released three EPs and their 2009 full-length debut The Kids Can’t Lose (which is available in Japan via In-N-Out Records). Recognized as one of the hardest working bands in the scene from band members and peers in Bayside, Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, and Valencia, the band has spent the better part of 2009 on the road supporting the album. A Loss For Words have played alongside scene heavyweights such as New Found Glory, Fall Out Boy, Saves The Day, Cartel, Hit The Lights, and are on the cusp of heading overseas to tour the UK and head as far east as Russia.

I Fight Dragons sign to Photo Finish Records

Chiptune/rock Chicagoans I FIGHT DRAGONS announce that they have signed to Photo Finish Records/Atlantic Records.

So, as of today, February 4, 2010, we are officially announcing that I Fight Dragons is joining the Photo Finish / Atlantic Records roster.

Now some of you may know how big a deal this is, but some may not. So just what does this mean?

Well for one, "Heads Up, Hearts Down" is currently #5 on Denver's top Alternative Rock station, 93.3. Atlantic's awesome radio team will start to take it to stations all across the nation in the next few weeks, and before you know it, you might start to hear Chiptune-Rock on your radio dial. Nutso, right?

Another difference is that we're going to record and release our debut full-length album with Photo Finish / Atlantic. It will be available in retail stores across the nation, and the new singles will also be taken to radio by their intrepid team. To top it off, they are giving us huge amounts of creative control, and we are incredibly excited about the album.

The final, partially related, HUGE piece of news is that we'll be headed out on tour this spring with our fellow Atlantic Records bands 3OH!3 (Photo Finish), Cobra Starship (Fueled by Ramen), and Travis McCoy (of Gym Class Heroes, on Fueled by Ramen). The tour is called the MTV "Too Fast For Love" tour, and the schedule is up on our site: www.ifightdragons.com/shows.html. We are going to be playing some huge rock shows!! - Brian

Epitaph Records signs OFF WITH THEIR HEADS

Epitaph Records is proud to announce the signing of Minneapolis punk band Off With Their Heads. The punk road dogs recently took time off from touring to record their second full length album, with plans for a summer release, but left the engine running for a two month long excursion of US and Canada that begins February 3rd.

Formed in 2002, Off With Their Heads went through a slew of musicians before finally cementing the lineup with Ryan Young on vocals/guitar, Justin Francis on drums, Zack Gontard on guitar and Robbie Swartwood on bass. Since their inception, the band has released an impressive catalog of music including seventeen 7"'s, one LP and a few comps, and has toured relentlessly in US, Europe, Canada and Japan for the past five years with bands like Against Me, Youth Brigade, The Bouncing Souls and Municipal Waste to name a few.

It was during Off With Their Heads' 2009 tour with Against Me when the band got the call from Epitaph's owner/president Brett Gurewitz saying that he was a fan of the band.

"Off With Their Heads might be the best punk band going right now, Epitaph needs them; music needs them," says Gurewitz.

"I remember the first time I'd heard of Epitaph," Young adds. "It was when I was in junior high and Rancid had just released Let's Go. I saw the video, and immediately went and bought the record. I got into the compilations, and that started me on the road to finding all these great aggressive catchy punk bands. Living in a small farm town, I had never been exposed to this kind of music before, and from there I learned about punk. I guess you could say Epitaph was my gateway into everything that I would wind up becoming. For that reason alone, I am ecstatic to be a part of one of the biggest influences on my life."

Off With Their Heads are well on their way to carving out their own punk rock story with their modern take on vintage punk fueled anthems. As the band begins the next chapter of their career they took the time to record their best album to date.

"We recorded our record in Minneapolis at a studio called The Terrarium," says Young. "This is where most of the great sounding records that come out of town are recorded. I think the difference between this record and our last one is that we have enough time to make sure everything is tracked and mixed the way we would like it to be. We have never in 6 years had more than 2-3 days in a studio, and there have been parts on every recording that I'd wished we would have fixed and not used the old "good enough" excuse. The songs stylistically are a mix of something from every record, which is great."

When asked about the new music, Young says, "it's a good mix of driving aggression and also mid tempo pop. Those are our two strong suits, and I'm hoping they shine through as well as they have in the past. Lyrically, it's about the good and the bad things of the lifestyle that I've chosen for myself."

Equal Vision Records signs PLACES AND NUMBERS

Equal Vision Records is pleased to welcome to its' roster Places And Numbers - the electronic-tinged solo outfit of former Gatsby's American Dream guitarist, Bobby Darling.

Using his connections with an airline, Darling was able to send himself, producer/friend Casey Bates (Gatsby's American Dream, Portugal. The Man), his brother Billy, and videographer Jay Schwandt to Italy. The group traveled to Venice, Verona, Bellagio, Cinque Terre, Chianti, Rome and Lake Como, recording and filming along the way, while pulling inspiration from the rejuvenating culture.
"I had my laptop and my MBox (a portable ProTools rig)," Darling explains. "We recorded in hotel rooms, on trains, even on a beach on Lake Como."

The finished product is the forthcoming Waking The Dead EP, to be released next month via Bandcamp's "pay what you want" model, and documentary-style videos to accompany the release of the full-length album, Travels, later this year. The sound, while reminiscent of the Postal Service, pulls musical influences from acts as diverse as Talking Heads, the Strokes, Death Cab For Cutie and Kanye West.

Obviously, Darling is no stranger to the road and will continue his travels this year, including a tour this March alongside We Are The In Crowd and Swimming With Dolphins:

Sick Of It All sign worldwide deal with Century Media

It’s clobberin’ time as the legendary NYC hardcore pioneers, SICK OF IT ALL, have returned with an absolutely crushing new full-length album that is going to once again redefine the genre they helped create. The group will be releasing their vicious new offering, Based On A True Story, worldwide through Century Media Records and on April 20th in North America.

SICK OF IT ALL kick off the year with a bang as they embark on a lengthy European run with the Dropkick Murphys late this month and follow it up with an AFI run throughout the UK. The group look to announce North American dates soon. Stay tuned to www.myspace.com/sickofitallNY for all news and tour updates.

Armand (drums) further states: “We're starting a new chapter in SICK OF IT ALL history by signing a worldwide deal with Century Media for the release of our next album Based On a True Story. We had a great European experience with them on our last record, so we're psyched to continue that relationship, as well as expand the scope of the deal by including the USA and Canada. The head of the label has been very supportive since we first met him back in the early days, and it's great to know that we have someone at the helm who really understands what we're about. We had an inspired recording session and the album sounds great, so we hope it brings hardcore pride back in a big way! See you all real soon.”

After two decades of excellence, SICK OF IT ALL continues firing on all cylinders. The band’s real life dogma and hunger for excellence as a hardcore band have truly been ideals that fans from all corners of the globe passionately admire and identify with. SICK OF IT ALL have made their mark as one of the cornerstones of NYHC, proving that heart, hard work and dedication to hardcore is about more than just the music and an image, it’s a way of life.

BURNHILL UNION RECORDS SIGNS UNDERGROUND HEAVYWEIGHTS, "RIKETS".

Chicago-based BURNHILL UNION Records is proud to announce the signing of new group, RIKETS, to their growing rock label. The band’s debut album “ALL AMERICAN DEATH CULT” will be released under the Burnhill Union name this April 2010. After the release of this highly anticipated album, RIKETS will do what they do best and embark on a live tour around the country.

After completing a distribution deal with E1 Distribution in November, Burnhill Union Records steadily began growing their roster, beginning with the signing of rockers AM CONSPIRACY, featuring former Drowning Pool vocalist Jason ‘Gong’ Jones. Burnhill Union Records was formed earlier this year by partners, Kym Affinito, Randy Kertz, and Shaun Glass (ex-SOIL, Current DIRGE WITHIN guitarist).

After spending eighteen months on an extremely hectic tour, RIKETS’ founding member Scott Rose (vocals) had a chance meeting with Burnhill Union partner, Shaun Glass, and by December 2009, a deal was set in place. Scott explains, "Without a label home to release the album in the beginning, we did what we do best and toured. We didn’t have any other option. We toured so much that we noticed we had the ‘Sevendust Syndrome’ - you could see us in your town every 3 months." After meeting Glass and the rest of the Burnhill Union team, it seemed fate had taken over and RIKETS had found the right label ready to take the group to the next level. RIKETS has shared the stage with well-known rockers Korn, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Flyleaf, and Fear Factory to name a few. The band’s members include Scott (vocals), Provo (guitar), Nick (guitar), Michael (bass), and Timmy (drums). Stay tuned for “All American Death Cult” out this April and a busy tour schedule to immediately follow. There is no stopping this band of modern day road pirates.

Underoath frontman Spencer Chamberlain's resurrects old band!

Underoath frontman Spencer Chamberlain's old band THIS RUNS THROUGH with his brother Phil Chamberlain (To Speak of Wolves) are resurrected in Australia.

THIS RUNS THROUGH have signed to Australian label, El-Shaddai Records (House vs. Hurricane, A Plea For Purging). In 2010, the band will re-issue a special edition of their album, Until Forever Finds Me.

Label President Phil Kennedy said: "This Runs Through was a band we first heard way back before members went onto help shape the sound of modern heavy music in Underoath, Sullivan, and To Speak of Wolves. Those bands have been such a huge blessing and influence on our lives so to be in a position to release something that is now considered a classic is just a dream come true."

The special edition of Until Forever Finds Me will include each and every track which is now so hard to find along with some unique treats.

"We have been working on ways to add just that bit more sparkle to the package. While I must remain tight lipped at this stage the extras will be truly something of value," said El Shaddai Records' Phil Kennedy.

Flatfoot 56 signs to Old Shoe Records

Hailing from one of punk rock’s most traditionally rooted cities, Chicago’s FLATFOOT 56 is the most recent addition to the Old Shoe Records family of artists. Coinciding with the band’s 10th year anniversary, Flatfoot 56 has announced that their Old Shoe Records debut Black Thorn, produced by the Street Dogs’ Johnny Rioux, will be released on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th 2010.

Founder of Old Shoe Records Josh Stolo discussed the merger: “Old Shoe bands always have a great work ethic and have something more to offer. Flatfoot’s music is anthemic and really crosses all divides. These guys live on the road and own every stage they play. It’s an honor to have them join our family.”

The forthcoming new album, Black Thorn, tightly packs the quartet's eclectic and driving musical charge into thirteen tracks that celebrate the pride of the working class and their Chicago roots. A collection of songs that delves into weighty thematic content, Tobin explains that the cohesive theme of Black Thorn is a fundamentally universal one. “Everyone goes through hardships, but you aren’t alone. Punk rock is about community and brotherhood. This record is our contribution to that.”

Already building momentum for 2010, Flatfoot 56 has been confirmed for a supporting run on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. Starting July 11th and ending August 2nd, the run will include a hometown performance in Chicago that will prove momentous for the Windy City natives. In March, the band will celebrate the release of Black Thorn with release parties in multiple US cities and will travel to Austin, Texas during SXSW to headline the Old Shoe Records showcase alongside labelmates Far From Finished.

Four Year Strong sign to Universal Motown?

Hmm...say it ain't so! Hmm, yes it's true or at least it appears to be true. Massachusetts pop punk/hardcore band, FOUR YEAR STRONG, has reported signed to major label Universal Motown (Lil' Wayne, FTSK, Akon).

So, what's our proof. Well...the band's upcoming single It Must Really Suck To Be Four Year Strong Right Now will be released digitally on December 21st BUT its being distributed by Universal Motown. Don't believe me, GO SEE here under 'product details'.

If that's not enough, go look here too. Basically, FOUR YEAR STRONG is signed to Universal Motown and their new label owns the copyright on the upcoming single, not mention the next album, Enemy of the World.

A Plea For Purging sign to Australia's El-Shaddai Records

Official Press Release:

Hailing from Nashville Tennessee, in the heart of America’s deep south, metalcore monsters A Plea For Purging have built a strong reputation for amazing technical ability, fire-breathing and an intense touring schedule which has seen them play over 700 shows in the last 3 years alone!

Sweeping across their native land with a gruelling touring schedule, releasing two well received EPs and one breakout album A Plea For Purging went into the studio to record with legendary producer Joey Sturgis (Devil Wears Prada, Gwen Stacy, Attack Attack). Taking inspiration from a diverse range of artists ranging from Meshuggah and Radiohead to Slipknot and even T.I  the result, Depravity, is a bone crunching mix of raging vocals and elegantly twisted harmonies.

After firmly establishing themselves in their native land A Plea For Purging have set their sights on Australia. The band inked a deal with rising Aussie indie label El Shaddai Records, who successfully brought the sounds of artists like Forgiven Rival, House vs Hurricane and who successfully brought the sounds of artists like Forgiven Rival, House vs Hurricane and recently Antiskeptic across thier sun soaked nation.

“We wanted to find a home with a label that understood the Australian market and that we also felt comfortable working with. We couldn’t be happier,” said guitarist Blake Martin.

Phil Kennedy, label President, said “A Plea For Purging’s a killer band and it’s a great honour having them join our growing family."

The band and new Australian home El Shaddai Records will start their Australian conquest by releasing their Facedown Records (Comeback Kid, War of Ages, Nodes of Ranvier) hit Depravity in early 2010. The exclusive Australian Edition version of Depravity will have a few little surprises. “We want to give a little something special to our Aussie fans that have little surprises. “We want to give a little something special to our Aussie fans that have waited patiently for this record to land on their sunny shores,” guitarist Blake Martin explained.

The band also plans to make the long trip out to tour there next year which will mark the first time Australian fans get to taste Andy Atkins, Blake Martin, Tyler Wilson, John Wand and Aaron Eckermann unleash their power onstage. Until that time Australian listeners of Depravity will be sure to see why the bands faith in their craft is indestructible; the place from which Depravity is born.
