Metal Blade Records signs RETURN TO EARTH

Metal Blade Records signs hard rock band RETURN TO EARTH featuring Chris Pennie of Coheed & Cambria (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan).

RETURN TO EARTH comments: "After self-releasing our first album, Captains of Industry, and discovering a heavier, more intense sound during the recording sessions for Automata, the three of us agreed that the scope of the band's vision would benefit from the support of a bigger, like-minded record label - one that had similar musical influences and an appreciation for our DIY 'studio geek' mentality. Also, a label we felt we could trust and depend upon to promote our songs properly. Metal Blade was always at the top of our very short wish list of potential partners, and so we were thrilled to discover that Brian Slagel and Metal Blade were as enamored with us as we were with them. Signing with Metal Blade is an affirmation of our hard work, and we are psyched to have them in our corner for the release of Automata!"

RETURN TO EARTH's music is highlighted by the awe-inspiring precision of Pennie's backbeat, Aveni's catchy rock hooks, and Scalzo's sing-and-scream, harmony-heavy vocals. Explains Scalzo, "We're al passionate about music, and have a shared affinity for classic metal & modern-day rock with lush production. We're three guys with three different perspectives - but you can hear all those influences in production. We're three guys with three different perspectives - but you can hear all those influences in our own tunes, loud & clear." As with all great bands, when RETURN TO EARTH make music together the disparate influences and personalities coalesce into a single vision. Adds Scalzo, "Most of all, we each draw inspiration from the other guys' strengths - whether a riff, a rhythm line, or a vocal hook - it doesn't take much to ignite our respective fires, and that usually culminates in something heavy different, and ultimately, inspirational. We're all really proud of this record."

Metal Blade Records will release Return To Earth's second full-length album, Automata.

Woe Of Tyrants Unveil Album Title, Release Date for Third Album!

Official Press Release:

Woe Of Tyrants spent the entirety of 2009 criss-crossing the US on a multitude of tours. After the grueling schedule came to a close, did they head home to rest and take some time off? NOPE! They dove right into songwriting for the follow up to their sophomore album and Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. This time around, the guys have seriously turned up the shred-knob and churned out some of the most exciting songs we've heard swirling around the Metal Blade offices in quite some time. On this record, you'll find equal parts speed, groove and over the top guitar soloing. Headbanging will be mandatory.

The new album, Threnody, will be released worldwide on April 13th while the band will be on the road with Overkill and Vader. The artwork and first track will be up on the band's myspace, myspace.com/wot, in the coming weeks. Before then, SiriusXM Liquid Metal listeners will be treated to an exclusive premiere of the first single, Creatures Of The Mire on Friday, February 12th.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro discusses the themes of Threnody:
"Well 2009 proved to be a monstrous one for Woe of Tyrants. It was a year of accomplishing goals such as releasing our debut Metal Blade album, touring with bands we've grown up listening to, and meeting thousands of awesome people all over the country. As we embark into 2010, our goals have shifted up a few gears. We have a brand baby spankin' new record that we finished recording at the end of 2009 with Jamie King producing, and to embrace the cliché "this is the most epic brutal stuff we've ever done and we're stoked on it!" The album is entitled Threnody. Now for those of us who do not know what that word means right off hand (I had to look it up as I was reading a passage from Ralph Waldo Emerson long ago), a threnody is a song or hymn inspired by the grief of losing someone you love. The album tells a story of a non-specific individual traveling between planets searching for answers, while paralleling Satan's fall from grace to damnation at the same time. We all experience a change at some point as we travel through life, albeit not of the same magnitude as Lucifer, that will render us either content, or disgusted. When disgust is the feeling, then we begin to miss our former self as if they were an entirely different person. I'd like to be clear that I'm not referring specifically to Christians, or Muslims, or Amish or whatever else the kids are doing these days. Threnody, as we are using it, is a story of grief over losing oneself. This album will surprise those familiar with our band, and hopefully surpass any preconceived notions of those who are listening to us for the first time. If you have expectations for this record to sound like our last two albums, it doesn't. Well, a little like the others, as we still prefer playing leads over doing breakdowns, and we still wish we were Wintersun or Decapitated. But for the most part, this record is new territory for us and we are excited to unleash it.

We have a huge touring schedule kicking off in the spring, preceded by some regional shows in February as a part of the "Metal as Art" tour with Hypno5e, Starring Janet Leigh and Fallen Martyr. At the end of March, we leave on the KILLFEST tour which features Overkill, Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer and Evile. We couldn't be happier about being involved with such an epic tour, and to join Overkill on their 25th anniversary tour is truly an honor. Much love!"

Threnody track listing:
1. Tetelestai
2. Creatures Of The Mire
3. Venom Eye
4. Tempting The Wretch
5. Threnody
6. Bloodsmear
7. The Venus Orbit
8. Lightning Over Atlantis

WHITECHAPEL begin recording a new album

Official Press Release:

WHITECHAPEL enters Audiohammer Studios to record follow up to ‘This Is Exile'.

Just home from touring with Trivium and Chimaira and closing out an extremely busy and successful year, Tennessee’s WHITECHAPEL are now set to head into the studio December 27th to January 31st with infamous metal producer Jason Suecof (Trivium, All That Remains, The Black Dahlia Murder, Chimaira, DevilDriver and many more). WHITECHAPEL are set to record the follow up to the band’s crushing Metal Blade debut, This is Exile, at Jason’s Orlando, FL based Audiohammer Studios. Be sure to stay tuned to Whitechapel’s and Metal Blade’s sites as more information regarding guest vocalists, studio updates, and video updates will be posted throughout the band’s recording process.

Guitarist and founding member ALEX WADE comments:

"We're really excited to announce that we will be hitting the studio in January with a producer who needs no introduction, Jason Suecof. Suecof has produced some of the most brutal metal albums to date and we are excited for him to get his hands on our new material to make it the heaviest music we've created thus far."

"Also, Dusty Peterson has been signed on to handle the artwork duties. His dark, yet meticulously detailed style of hand drawn artwork is sure to bring out a truly vivid and brutal masterpiece. We really wanted our artwork for the record to speak as loudly for us as the music we are creating, thus, Dusty was picked for his unbelievably realistic and detailed hand drawn style. In this day and age where downloading a CD is as easy as typing the cd's name into a search bar, we wanted to make the artwork something creative and special for the fans who actually purchase the CD. Almost like owning a piece of art."

"As for the title and tracklisting, you'll just have to wait for that as the CD comes closer to completion."

WHITECHAPEL's 'This is Exile' was unleashed on July 8th, 2008, and debuted at #118 on the Billboard top 200 charts, #2 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers, and #14 on Billboard’s Top Independent albums. An accomplishment that is impressive for veteran artists, much less a relatively brand new metal act.

As I Lay Dying issues update from the studio!

As I Lay Dying is currently holed up with Adam D. and Daniel Castleman at Lambesis Studios in San Diego, CA. They're hard at work recording and writing their follow up to 2007's An Ocean Between Us. The band will be recording and writing throughout the rest of 2009 and vocalist Tim Lambesis has issued the following update via the band's myspace page:

"We've released little bits of information here or there in previous news posts and blogs, but there are still questions coming in concerning what we've been up to. Below is an unquestionably obvious outline concerning our future plans... 1) We started working on new album. 2) We started recording the new album a few weeks ago with Adam D & Daniel Castleman at the reigns (and JMR for a couple weeks). 3) There are only drums for 8 songs tracked so far. One of them we're undecided about, but maybe it'll feel different when the vocals are done. Either way, we need write more than 8 songs (since they aren't as long as the 8 songs on Master of Puppets). Therefore we're working on writing MORE new songs as soon as we finish recording what's been started. 4) The only break in working on the new album will be our short trip to Mexico and Sri Lanka to play two of the best shows of our career. 5) All of us can't stress enough how grateful we are to be writing music that we love while still receiving a paycheck. This can only be credited to OUR LOYAL FANS! Sometimes bands need to rush out a crappy record so they can start touring again to pay their bills. In our case, we plan to make a record worth listening to (hopefully), and start touring again when we're done. Thanks for your patience and understanding. We care and we're working. In fact, I haven't had a full nights rest since March when the coolest kid ever made me a DAD!"

As Tim mentioned, the band will be playing in Mexico City, Mexico and one very special show all the way over in Sri Lanka.

AS I LAY DYING announce recording date

As I Lay Dying announce that they will be recording their new record in mid-October.

Band Statement:
"Songwriting has been going well with about 6-7 songs done. We decided to officially start recording the new AILD album on Oct 17. At that point we'll record as many songs as we can and then finish the album around the new year. I think this will be a good way to spread out our songwriting since most of our previous records have always been written within a few months."

The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza announce new album

Murfreesboro, TN experimental metal act, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, has announced the title of their next album, Danza III: The Series Of Unfortunate Events. The band will be recording throughout November at Anthem Productions with Jeremiah Scott and Steve Blackmon.

Danza III's themes are exactly what they suggest, it will chronicle unfortunate events - personal, social, political, global, etc. "We see it as an accumulation of Danza I and II combined. We spent a lot of time structuring the album with three main musical elements; those being tech, groove, and ambiance. It's a long, pissed off and sad emotional roller coaster," said Jessie Freeland and Josh Travis.

Song titles so far include "Passenger 57", "I Am Sammy Jankis", and "Yippie-Ky-Yay-Mother******". Fans will be able to check out Yippie-Ky-Yay as early as next week on the band's myspace page. Keep your eyes on their myspace for more updates on the record as they become available.

Danza also announces: "We are sad to inform everyone that Layne Meylain and Mike Butler are no longer a part of this project. There is no bad blood between any of us, and we are extremely proud of them for taking on their responsibilities and continuing with their life endeavors. They will be sorely missed,as they continue to push us in finishing this album and keep Danza going."

THE RED CHORD releases artwork and tracklist

Boston Massachusetts metallers THE RED CHORD are gearing up for the release of their fourth full length album (third for Metal Blade) titled Fed Through the Teeth Machine, due out on October 27th in the US. THE RED CHORD already has dates lined up with labelmates and interplanetary gods GWAR along with labelmates Job for a Cowboy. The nearly two and a half month trek with GWAR and Job for a Cowboy will take THE RED CHORD across the United States kicking off in Houston Texas on September 29th and finishing up in New York City on December 13th.

Here's what guitarist Mike "Gunface" McKenzie has to say about the band's new album Fed Through the Teeth Machine:

"We spent the last year working hard on this one and we're excited for everyone to finally hear it. It's a lot faster and, in my opinion, more straight forward in a structural sense. We're really happy with the great work Jonny Fay and Zeuss did too. It's not a concept record, but there are some loose conceptual elements to it: hygienic obsession, delusional compound-dwellers and Maniac Mansion. Get ready to make fun of us on the internet!"

In conjunction with the release of Fed Through the Teeth Machine, THE RED CHORD has just uploaded the brand new track Demoralizer to their freshly updated MySpace page that showcases the album's artwork. Check out the new MySpace design and track "Demoralizer", www.myspace.com/theredchord.

"Demoralizer kind of sums up what the record is about. It's aggressive and fast with some darker melodic parts. Probably one of the angriest-sounding songs we've recorded, which fits the records vibe," comments Mike "Gunface" McKenzie.

Fed Through the Teeth Machine Tracklist:
1. Demoralizer
2. Hour Of Rats
3. Hymns And Crippled Anthems
4. Embarrassment Legacy
5. Tales Of Martyrs And Disappearing Acts
6. Floating Through The Vein
7. Ingest The Ash
8. One Robot To Another
9. Mouthful Of Precious Stones
10. The Ugliest Truth
11. Face Area Solution
12. Sleepless Nights In The Compound

While the heavy music scene is flooded and littered with trendy, ‘current' fusion bands that string together electronics and mosh and pretend to be as brutal as fuck, THE RED CHORD aren't having any of it. The music on Fed Through the Teeth Machine is like a hulking hammer that rips and tears at the fabric of all that is trend-driven. But THE RED CHORD aren't making music for that purpose; they're just good enough to flip off trends and top the bands that perpetrate them. The Massachusetts band - which has downsized to a lean ‘n mean four-piece to counteract the bad economy function as a quartet without sacrificing any of their Rottweiler-like ferocity and tenacity - continues to focus on making extreme metal, for extreme people who want something lyrically and musically outside the box and forward thinking and don't want some assembly-line, manufactured, "of the moment" band in their lives. Put simply: If you want to have your bones reduced to dust and your brain taken out scrambled and put back in by music, then THE RED CHORD are up for that task with Fed Through the Teeth Machine.

THE RED CHORD is:
Guy Kozowyk - Vocals
Mike "Gunface" McKenzie - Guitars
Greg Weeks - Bass
Brad Fickeisen - Drums

AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE "Double Brutal" Tracklist

As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis and California frontman Ahhnold are back for round two with the release of AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE's Double Brutal, the follow up to 2008's highly successful (and, well, brutal) release, Total Brutal. With an appetite for all things barbarous, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE ups the ante with Double Brutal. This two-disc goliath features one disc of all new heavy tracks in the tradition of all of Ahhnold's greatest cinematic moments and a second disc of cover songs including songs originally performed by METALLICA, MEGADETH, MISFITS, JUDAS PRIEST and more, with cover art once again being tackled by Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, NOFX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, etc).

A new audio clip featuring sneak peeks at tracks taken from Double Brutal is currently available on ADM's MySpace page HERE. Check it out to get a taste of the sheer brutality that is set to devastate the world on September 29th Doom-thousand and Nine.

"Sometimes being stereotypically metal is fitting. I'm not trying to break new ground; I just want to break people's necks... and have fun doing it" comments AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE creator Tim Lambesis. For anyone who doubts the barbaric and brutal nature of Double Brutal, rest assured this album truly is doubly brutal. How can anyone argue Double Brutal's pure savageness and testosterone filled manliness when you have Ahhnold, the strongest man in the universe and leader of many a mission filled with exploding chests, eyes bursting out of their sockets, and hands down the most classic one-liners you will ever hear, AND Tim Lambesis who can do a one armed push up while listening to Survivors ‘Eye of the Tiger' (it's true, I've seen it)?

Bottom line, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE is still fast, still pissed, and still brutal.

Double Brutal features shed-a-riffic performances by:
• BILLY SHEEHAN
• BUZ MCGRATH (UNEARTH)
• ANDREW TAPLEY (THE HUMAN ABSTRACT)
• JAMES GERICKE (DEATH BY STEREO)
• MARK MACDONAL (MERCURY SWITCH)

John “Slo” Maggard of Unearth to release book, “Bet On Black Journal”

"My new eBook, entitled Bet On Black Journal, will be released August 21, 2009. Written together with my long time friend and writer Corey Tomlinson, we're taking a look at casino gaming from the eyes of a touring musician. The book isn't only a guide to gaming either; we'll be talking with my fellow musicians to tell some of their stories on the accompanying web site and sharing some of my own experiences on the road and in the world's casinos."

In support of this new release, I will be running some contests and drawings for some things such as instruments, casino nights, etc. I don't want this just to be about selling a book - the whole experience is for you, our fans, and I want it to be as interactive and entertaining as possible. I also have special plans in place to benefit a charity that's near and dear to my own life - I'll be sharing more news on that as the holidays approach.

Corey and I are looking forward to talking to as many of you as possible on the site soon."

-Slo

Learn from the gambling exploits and methods of John "Slo" Maggard, bassist of the heavy metal outfit Unearth. With years of experience touring and gambling all over the world, Slo has applied his experience and talents to finding ways to swing the odds in your favor.

Whether you've gambled a thousand times or just turned 21 and are roaring to go and play for the first time, this book has something for you.

Metal Blade signs Lightning Swords Of Death

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce inking a deal with LA underground black metal act, Lightning Swords Of Death. The band is seven years of the making and has been praised by the likes of Decibel, SOD Magazine, PIT Magazine and Metal Maniacs for their unrelenting and irrefutably vicious sound. Those who were privy to the band's 2007 release, The Golden Plague, are already aware of the band's prowess. Their second release took the form of a split CD with comrades Valdur, which was only available for a limited time at performances during the country wide 2008 Blodhevn tour. Metal Maniacs called LSOD's part a "heavy, bestial and brutal assault bringing to mind a young and hungry Thornspawn." The split continues to infect all who experience its unyielding expression of true chaos, but it's only a precursor of the grand and terrible horror that is looming in the future like a headsman's shadow...

Vocalist Farron divulges: "Metal Blade has made a pact with the Devil. His knights, Lightning Swords of Death shall go forth to wreak torment upon man and all his works for conquer and the glory of Hell on Earth. We rejoice in this union, together we shall stack the souls of the weak and fill our chalice with the blood of martyrs."

Tour Dates:
08/08 Las Vegas, NV Yayos
08/09 Sacramento, CA Java Lounge
08/11 Salt Lake City, UT Club Expose

Job For A Cowboy skyrockets to #42 on Billboard

Award-winning Glendale, AZ heavy music powerhouse JOB FOR A COWBOY lands at #42 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart this week with its sophomore album, Ruination. The record dropped on July 7th in North American via Metal Blade Records and shifted nearly 11,000 units in just its first week of release.

Additionally, Ruination debuted at #4 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums Chart and at #7 on Billboard's Hard Music Albums Chart. The album also debuted at #50on Canada's Nielsen SoundScan Charts, #5 on its Independent Albums Chart and at #8 on the Canadian Hard Music Albums Chart. The follow up to JOB FOR A COWBOY's 2007 debut, Genesis (the highest charting metal debut to crack Billboard's Top 200 since Slipknot's 1999 self-titled album), Ruination has met to scads of critical acclaim in the weeks leading up to its release. The album's first week charting position represents one of the highest Billboard debuts ever for a band representing the "death metal" subgenre.

JOB FOR A COWBOY's Ruination is a concentrated hotbed of astounding dexterity, scorching attack, sleek arrangement and thundering musical muscle. Infectious riffs, keen dynamics and the assertive vocals of rising star front man Jonny Davy combine to produce an album that is at once powerful, expressive, confident and commanding. The album features ten tracks of state-of-the-art heavy metal music. The New York Times referred to JOB FOR A COWBOY's sound as "brute-force", a commendatory claim that Ruination unquestionably validates.

JOB FOR A COWBOY is currently touring North America as part of the 2009 "ROCKSTAR Energy Mayhem Festival". The 27-date North American march is slated to run through August 15 in Dallas, TX. In the two years since the release of the band's full length debut, JOB FOR A COWBOY has progressed from "the band with the different name" to one of the leading lights for heavy music in the 21st century. The quintet has toured the world to out-and-out acclaim, highlighted by main stage appearances at distinguished music jubilees such as the UK's Download Festival and Germany's Wacken Open Air.

Evergreen Terrace to post first single from new album

Jacksonville, Florida's Evergreen Terrace have posted the first single from their upcoming full length, Almost Home. "Enemy Sex" is now available for fans to stream on the band's myspace page: www.myspace.com/evergreenterrace.

Speaking on the significance of the new album's title, James says, "We are a touring band, and it feels like we are forever saying we're ‘almost home.' Touring is something that nothing compares to, but there's a feeling of almost being home that resonates with all of us. In a way the band has come full circle back to its original home. We started this band for fun, and it lead us to success. Writing this album has brought us back to the beginning. It has been fun, crazy, frustrating, insomniatic and even with the inevitable pressure, pretty carefree."

Almost Home is the band's 6th studio album and will be available everywhere on September 29th.

Evergreen Terrace drummer Kyle Mims injured in bike accident

"After yesterday's practice, Kyle (drummer) was in a horrific bike accident. He was rushed to the emergency room and released late last night full of stitches and a broken clavicle (collar bone).Unfortunately he will have to have surgery and physical therapy for the next 4-8 weeks. So for obvious reasons he will not be with us on our upcoming headlining shows or the Summer Slob tour with The Acacia Strain. Please wish Kyle a quick recovery. He's pretty bummed out. Caleb James, our long time roadie and drummer for Casey Jones, will be taking over drum duties for now. Check out all dates on our myspace." - Evergreen Terrace

Here's a picture of Kyle after they brought him back to life.

Ironclad Recordings Signs ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE

Ironclad Recordings, founded by Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps, is pleased to announce the signing of Chico California's ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE; a band featuring the talents of former members of Will Haven, The Abominable Iron Sloth, and Ghostride. Ironclad Recordings is set to release ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE's debut full-length studio album Defeat in the US and Canada on September 15th, 2009 with SOAR releasing this behemoth of an album in Europe. Defeat was recorded during two different sessions in late 2008 at the Pus Cavern in Sacramento, CA and Heirloom Studios in Chico, CA, with Matt Pedri engineering. Mixing and mastering for Defeat was handled by Eric Stenman (Saves The Day, Will Haven, Senses Fail, Far, Forever The Sickest Kids, Dashboard Confessional, Thrice) with cover art being tackled by renowned artist Matt Loomis, who has done cover art for Abominable Iron Sloth and the Makai in addition to merch designs for Mastodon and The Red Chord.

Trevor Phipps of Ironclad Recordings comments: "these guys are just ridiculously heavy with one of the darkest and meanest sounds in metal today. Get ready to be crushed."

"We couldn't be more excited as a band to sign with Ironclad Recording. They have been loyal and honest with us from the very beginning, which is all too rare in this business. They are the only label that told us to keep getting heavier! What more can you ask for as a metal band?!" comments ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE

ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE is:
Kirk Williams - vocals/guitar
Cayle Hunter - guitar/vocals
Corey Vaspra - bass/vocals
Nick Harris - drums

Unsigned bands: Beware of label staff imposters & impersonators

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

Unsigned bands: Beware of label staff imposters & impersonators

You're an unsigned band playing a local show and someone approaches you claiming to represent Nuclear Blast or Metal Blade Records. They say they want to sign you, book studio time for your band, buy you plane tickets, or even put you on Ozzfest, yet no contracts are ever involved. Sound too good to be true? That's because it is.

There's been a rash of imposters in several states claiming all of the above and more. Some try to extort money from bands by claiming they need it to place a deposit on whatever it is they're promising. Others want free entry into a show, free CDs & band merchandise, or backstage access. Whatever the case, what's clear is that these imposters have such low-self esteem that they're willing to lie about who they are.

Bands, DO NOT LET YOUR HOPES OF GETTING SIGNED BLINDSIDE YOU. Staff members at Nuclear Blast and Metal Blade:

• conduct official business via their official office e-mail & telephone number.
• can produce a business card with the label's logo, official office address, and official telephone number.
• NEVER ask unsigned bands for "deposit" money.

Nuclear Blast and Metal Blade Records wish to keep their reputations among metal fans & metal musicians in good standing, as we understand how hard bands work to bring their music to the metal community. These imposters are mocking everything we stand for as independent metal labels, as musicians, and as fans.

If ANYONE approaches your band claiming to be from a label and asks for money, for free entry into a show, free CDs or merchandise, or backstage access, your FIRST response should be to be skeptical.

Call the label asking to verify staff names and positions. Or, take your photo with the imposter/impersonator and send it to the label's general e-mail address to inform them of what they are promising.

Nuclear Blast's general e-mail address is: mail@nuclearblastusa.com
Metal Blade's general e-mail address is: metalblade@metalblade.com
