GO RADIO unveil debut EP tracklist, artwork, release date!

Go Radio is proud to announce their debut EP released by Fearless Records. The album will be titled, "Do Overs And Second Chances" and will be released April 20th. See the album art and tracklist below.

Jason Lancaster (Vocals/Guitar):
"I really feel like this EP is the summary of what Go Radio is about right now. It's a collection of songs about where I was emotionally as well as some new ones that kinda tie everything together. I think I can safely say it's the first collection of songs, ep or otherwise, that tells the whole story for me. It starts off with songs written when I was at an emotional low point, but then there are songs that were written when I finally started to be picked back up. Although they may not be in chronological order, all the songs together really put the process of breathing in a lyrical form, at least for me. They even do so in a way that's still easy for me to listen to. Hahaha."

Tracklist:
1.) When Dreaming Gets Drastic
2.) Thanks For Nothing
3.) Letters and Love Notes
4.) It's Not A Trap, I Promise
5.) In Our Final Hour
6.) You Hold Your Breath, I'll Hold My Liquor
7.) Goodnight Moon

Album Review: ALESANA "The Emptiness", the backstory & my opinion

North Carolina six-piece ALESANA have vocally and instrumentally painted a psychological thriller on wax. The Emptiness, the new concept album is based on a short story written by vocalists, Shawn Milke and Dennis Lee. The narrative is set just before the 20th century (1849-1899) and is centered around a painter tagged 'The Artist' whose mind has dissolved into lunacy following the death of his beloved, Annabel Lee.

Now if you're a poetry enthusiast, you know that the great Edgar Allan Poe's last published poem was entitled Annabel Lee which was based upon the premature death of his wife, Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe (age 24). Poe's wife Virginia died in 1847, the poem was written in 1849, a few months before Edgar passed away; some say due to depression bathed in alcoholism.

In a recent interview with Smartpunk Shawn Milke explains Alesana's version: Each song tells a different chapter of the story, and the story gradually unfolds towards a surprising and exciting conclusion. With that said, the fun part is discovering the story, so I don’t want to give too much away. However, I can say that the story begins in a small town called Slough at the turn of the 20th century in England. Our main character, The Artist, wakes in the morning to find that his lover, Annabel, has been brutally murdered in the bed next to him.

The album opens with a spoken word intro from Dennis Lee on the first track, "Curse Of The Virgin Canvas". This first chapter of The Emptiness details The Artist waking up next to the murdered Annabel and overcome with erratic emotions of disbelief and despair, hoping this is all a dream. The tail end of the song features a brief narration from Melissa Milke as Annabel Lee.

The production of the album is louder, fuller, and more dynamic in it's instrumental delivery. The dual vocals, screaming and singing, amp the album to a climatic chaos, perfectly bringing the listener into the growing insanity of The Artist. Shawn and Dennis' screaming harmonies convey the emotional turmoil and continually drive the core of the story. Lyrically, each song steadily connects to one another building up to a full telling of a well-written short narrative.

The next track "The Artist" is a full on introduction to the main character wrestling with mourning or escaping into the calmness of insanity. As the album proceeds The Artist gives into insanity as described in the 3rd song "A Lunatic's Lament", and morphs into 3 other multiple personalities: "The Murderer", "The Thespian", and "The Lover".

In an interview with Revolver Mag, Shawn discusses "The Thespian": Our main character, the artist, is starting to suffer from delirium and begins seeing the face of his dead lover around every corner. As the song draws near its conclusion, our protagonist and antagonist meet face to face for the first time.

Now, we don't give too much away in discussing anymore of the songs but what I can say is that Where Myth Fades to Legend had a handful of solid hits but with The Emptiness, Alesana raises the bar lyrically and instrumentally. The sound of the band doesn't change, they maintain their unique dual vocal harmonies, their catchy/poppy choruses, and metalcore bang. The Emptiness is a successful attempt from maturing entertainers to introduce a new face of their art to fans. With the album's theatrical theme, I'm very interested as to how Alesana will alter their stage performance on upcoming tours to fit the mood of the album's concept. The Emptiness hits stores and digital outlets on January 26, 2010 via Fearless Records.

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Concept and lyrics are on-point, high energy, creative)
Favorite Track: The Thespian and Hymn Of The Shameless (it's a tie)
Fun Fact: Alesana recorded pre-production at Orion Studios in Baltimore, Maryland. Edgar Allan Poe died in 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland.

How does a post-hardcore/screamo band do an acoustic performance? Hmm... here's how. Ugh, I like this band but probably not the best move.

A Skylit Drive "Adelphia" album review.

Lodi, California six-piece, A Skylit Drive, releases their 2nd full-length and debut album for Fearless Records, Adelphia, on June 9th. The album was recorded in the February in Seattle, Washington at Johnny Cab Studios with renown producer, Casey Bates (Chiodos, Pierce The Veil, Forgive Durden). In our video interview with guitarists Nick Miller and Joey Wilson, they stated that the album is centered around a fictitious town in Alaska named "Adelphia" which is a hotbed for scientific experiments and lots of weird things. Haha, sounds very X-Files like.

Singer Michael Jagmin stated that, "The songs are a collaboration of stories telling of the happenings within the boundaries of Adelphia. It's all different ways of explaining how wrong the city and its ways are, and how these two people are doing everything in their power to escape. All the songs are rooted back to what it would be like to defy everything and get away from it all."

At first listen, the album kicks off with the signature guitar riffs of Nick and Joey which we like to call "galactic/space rock"; then the throaty growls of Brian command the listener's ear. The first track, "Prelude To A Dream", ushers us into the mysterious yet frightening small town of Adelphia. This track is instrumentally and vocally reminiscent of Wires and the Concept of Breathing; meshing Brian's growls and Jag's soprano vocals. After the first track, beginning with "Those Cannons Could Sink A Ship", Jag's vocals become the centerpiece of the record. The screaming vocals and growls from ASD's She Watched the Sky debut EP are not as present with this album; with each record after the EP the growls have decreased which act as a negative for the band. Adelphia features more of keyboardist Kyle Simmons which is a plus; the most notable piano melodies are heard in "Running With The Light" and "I Swear This Place Is Haunted". Drummer Cory LaQuay has a few standout drum numbers, our favorite certainly is in, "The Boy Without A Demon", where Cory puts his entire drum kit to good use. Lead off single and best track off the record in our opinion is definitely, "Eva The Carrier"; it's classic ASD, growls in all the right places with all their brutality, tenor-toned clean vocals, raging guitars and drumming; high adrenaline mosh pit song til it drops off at 2:15-2:40 but then it picks back up!

Adelphia is without a doubt the best A Skylit Drive album instrumentally. Guitarists, Nick Miller and Joey Wilson have musically matured and it's definitely noticeable when you hear songs like, "It's Not Ironic It's Obvious". If you ask me, Jag's older band Odd Project, musically handled his high vocals a lot better, taken a listen here, myspace.com/oddproject. ASD's best album to date continues to be She Watched the Sky and Wires and the Concept of Breathing was a good introduction to the change in vocal range with Michael Jagmin; but Adelphia fails to up the notch vocally.
Adelphia gets a thumbs up for album concept, longer songs, instrumentals, and Brian's growls (can't really tell where it's Cory). This writer is a fan of A Skylit Drive and despite what I've written will pick up the album. Buy Adelphia on Tuesday, June 9th via iTunes, SmartPunk, Hot Topic, and wherever else we have failed to mention.

ADELPHIA Track List:
1. Prelude To A Dream
2. Those Cannons Could Sink A Ship
3. Heaven
4. I Swear This Place Is Haunted
5. Eva The Carrier
6. Worlds End In Whispers, Not Bangs
7. The Boy Without A Demon
8. Thank God It's Cloudy Because I'm Allergic To The Sunlight
9. Air The Enlightenment
10. The Children Of Adelphia
11. Running With The Light
12. It's Not Ironic, It's Obvious
13. See you Around
