Epitaph Records signs Georgia's VEARA

Official Press Release:

Epitaph Records, in partnership with Running Man Records, is proud to announce the signing of pop-punk group Veara.  The Augusta, GA based band recently wrapped recording on their new studio album, which is expected for release this spring.  Fans can get an early listen to the first track, "We Have A Body Count," from the new record now on the band's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/veara.

The pop-punk foursome consisting of Bradley Wyrosdick (Vocals), Patrick Bambrick (Vocals/Guitar), Bryan Kerr (Vocals/Bass) and Brittany Harrell (Drums) formed in 2003 and have since self-released an EP and full-length album and have toured with bands like The Maine, DangerRadio and Powerspace.  In 2009 the band contacted Jeremy McKinnon and Joshua Woodard of hot pop-punk outfit A Day To Remember, who were looking for bands to work with on their newly formed company Running Man Records, and the rest is history.

"The dudes in Veara called me one night to see if I was in town and if I wanted to stop by and check out their new demos they had just wrapped up," explains Woodard.  "I got them to burn me a CD, and within 5 minutes of leaving them I knew they were the band I wanted to work with." In January of 2010, Veara entered Wade Studios in Ocala, FL, with McKinnon in the producer's chair and Andrew Wade tracking and mixing, where they recorded their forthcoming album.  Looking for a partner to release the record, McKinnon and Woodard contacted Epitaph's owner and president Brett Gurewitz who was immediately interested and inked a deal with the band and Running Man to release the album.

"Signing with Epitaph is something that we used to dream of," says guitarist Bambrick.  "We cannot express how stoked we are to be signing with a label that we have been fans of for years. Epitaph has put out many timeless albums, and we are stoked to be a part of an awesome family."

Catch the band live on their upcoming tour with A Day To Remember, August Burns Red, Silverstein and Enter Shikari this April. Stay tuned for more info on Veara's debut album from Epitaph Records and Running Man Records!

Epitaph Records signs OFF WITH THEIR HEADS

Epitaph Records is proud to announce the signing of Minneapolis punk band Off With Their Heads. The punk road dogs recently took time off from touring to record their second full length album, with plans for a summer release, but left the engine running for a two month long excursion of US and Canada that begins February 3rd.

Formed in 2002, Off With Their Heads went through a slew of musicians before finally cementing the lineup with Ryan Young on vocals/guitar, Justin Francis on drums, Zack Gontard on guitar and Robbie Swartwood on bass. Since their inception, the band has released an impressive catalog of music including seventeen 7"'s, one LP and a few comps, and has toured relentlessly in US, Europe, Canada and Japan for the past five years with bands like Against Me, Youth Brigade, The Bouncing Souls and Municipal Waste to name a few.

It was during Off With Their Heads' 2009 tour with Against Me when the band got the call from Epitaph's owner/president Brett Gurewitz saying that he was a fan of the band.

"Off With Their Heads might be the best punk band going right now, Epitaph needs them; music needs them," says Gurewitz.

"I remember the first time I'd heard of Epitaph," Young adds. "It was when I was in junior high and Rancid had just released Let's Go. I saw the video, and immediately went and bought the record. I got into the compilations, and that started me on the road to finding all these great aggressive catchy punk bands. Living in a small farm town, I had never been exposed to this kind of music before, and from there I learned about punk. I guess you could say Epitaph was my gateway into everything that I would wind up becoming. For that reason alone, I am ecstatic to be a part of one of the biggest influences on my life."

Off With Their Heads are well on their way to carving out their own punk rock story with their modern take on vintage punk fueled anthems. As the band begins the next chapter of their career they took the time to record their best album to date.

"We recorded our record in Minneapolis at a studio called The Terrarium," says Young. "This is where most of the great sounding records that come out of town are recorded. I think the difference between this record and our last one is that we have enough time to make sure everything is tracked and mixed the way we would like it to be. We have never in 6 years had more than 2-3 days in a studio, and there have been parts on every recording that I'd wished we would have fixed and not used the old "good enough" excuse. The songs stylistically are a mix of something from every record, which is great."

When asked about the new music, Young says, "it's a good mix of driving aggression and also mid tempo pop. Those are our two strong suits, and I'm hoping they shine through as well as they have in the past. Lyrically, it's about the good and the bad things of the lifestyle that I've chosen for myself."

Interview with Josh Franceschi of YOU ME AT SIX

British pop punk rockers, YOU ME AT SIX, recently toured the US this Oct-Nov with Mayday Parade, The Academy Is..., and more on the AP Fall Ball Tour. We caught up with lead singer Josh Franceschi in New York City to discuss random tidbits and the band's new album, Hold Me Down, set for release on January 11th. Download the album's new single, here!

: How have US fans received You Me At Six?

: US fans have been like, really cool. I found that this tour has been like a really good way for meeting people that maybe would like our band but just haven't heard of us yet. And, the crowd reactions have been in general really really good and then there have been a couple of missed places but the tour has been great and we've really enjoyed it.

: What is your favorite US city?

: Favorite city so far would probably be Chicago. We played the Chicago House of Blues and it just felt like we were playing a headline show in the UK. It was just an amazing feeling that people so far away from home had heard of our band and liked it enough to be so receptive, so that was really a great show. There have been some awesome shows this tour. Portland, Oregon stands out, Orlando, Florida was off the chain and we played a venue called the Norva in Virginia on Halloween and that's an awesome place; there's a basketball court inside.

: Do you need work visas to tour in the US?

: Yea, we have to get work visas and we've have since last March because we did South By South West, that was the first time we came to America. I think they last two years, so we have to get them renewed soon. Its pretty simple, we just come in saying we're working in the name of charity.

: What made you want to become a musician?

: Before I even knew what it would be like to have a fanbase at all, the main inspiration behind being in a band was my love for music. I picked up a guitar when I was like 11 and back in the days, it was like learning Linkin' Park riffs was the most important things to me. Then I discovered this band called The Early November and Ace Enders, and Ace Enders the frontman of that band, I wanted to be that guy, wacked out farmer jackets, plaid shirts, and I just wanted to write music like 'The Early November'. So for a few years, everything I wrote was in drop 'D' and just kinda like on the 8th fret, and it was awesome cause it sounded like 'The Early November'.

: Why did you decide go straight pop punk and cut out the screams in earlier material?

: Well, that stuff was written when we were like 15, 16, so I guess it wasn't really relative to what we wanted to do as a band anymore. When I swayed away from listening to bands like Senses Fail and The Bled and went more towards like, I've always liked driving records, but as a band we decided we wanted to play music with more melody and a bit more poppy. Our new stuff is a little heavier.

: you get signed to Epitaph Records?

: We got a new management company in December of last year and we just said send out our stuff to labels in America to see if anyone likes it, to see if anyone's interested cause we did everything in the UK ourselves. So it was just like we needed to find someone in America and Brett got back to our manager Craig ans was like this is awesome, we want to get involved. Next thing we knew, we were on a plane over here and having meetings and signed up, it was awesome. I think Epitaph is the kinda label that like they worked really well for our first record, they're the kinda label that's got a lot of credibility I feel. And it really helped us on Warped Tour being associated with a label like Epitaph.

: Let's talk about the new album, "Hold Me Down".

: We went to record the 2nd CD where we actually recorded the first one but we recorded "Take Off Your Colours" in 2 weeks and the new one "Hold Me Down" we lived in Reading for 6 and a half weeks but it took 2 months to record the CD in total. In my opinion they're (the songs) are heads and shoulders apart from the recording of "Take Off Your Colours" just because rather than spending a day on one song, we spent maybe like 3 or 4 maybe sometimes 5 days tracking one song. And it really gives the song room to breathe and to add in different parts that you may have not thought of before. We worked with a guy called Matt O' Grady who used to be in like the first UK pop punk band, Fastlane. He worked on our first CD and we had a great relationship with him and John Mitchell who mixed our record. It felt good cause there's such a great atmosphere in and around the camp who were living in Reading. We lived and breathed the record for such a long time that the songs really became really important to us and it really made us want to push them (the songs) as far as they could go in terms of being chosen.

: What would you like to say to fans?

: Don't believe everything you read in forums and for the very few that do buy it (our CD) just please keep getting involved and enjoy our spread of love.

Alkaline Trio launch new label, Heart & Skull Records.

Official Press Release:

Akaline Trio has announced the birth of Heart & Skull, the band's own label formed in partnership with Epitaph Records. The band will release its seventh album through Epitaph/Heart & Skull in early 2010.

Commenting on the formation of the new imprint, named for the band's longstanding logo, Alkaline Trio singer/guitarist Matt Skiba said, "We made the decision to form Heart & Skull to put out our own records after having been through every kind of label deal in the industry, big indies, small indies, majors. We knew it was time to adapt to the shifting tides of the music industry and we could not be more thrilled about doing that in conjunction with the team at Epitaph. Taking control of our own label situation was something we always wanted to do but never thought was possible, but now thanks to Brett Gurewitz and the fine folks at Epitaph, it is. All three of us in Alkaline Trio have always had the utmost respect for the music and the work ethic of the Epitaph, Anti- and Hellcat family and now we're honored to be working together under one big happy roof. Heart & Skull/Epitaph is truly a dream come true for us."

Alkaline Trio bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano added, "For our band at this time it really makes sense to release our own records, but we wanted to make sure we could partner up with good people who we would want to share in something very special to us.  When Brett called and said he wanted to be involved, that was it. Epitaph is a label I've admired and supported for more than half of my life! I couldn't be more excited for how this is turning out!"

Alkaline Trio first emerged from Chicago in 1996 and has since released the full length studio albums Goddamnit, Maybe I'll Catch Fire, From Here To Infirmary, Good Mourning, Crimson and last year's Agony & Irony, which was the highest charting record of the band's career to date. The band is comprised of Skiba, Andriano and drummer Derek Grant, all of whom are partners in Heart & Skull.

ALKALINE TRIO signs to Epitaph Records; new album in 2010!

As reported by Spinner.com:

It's been 11 years since Alkaline Trio released their first full-length album, 'Goddamnit.' In that time, they've been signed to three different labels and expanded their sound beyond their origina straight-ahead punk style, incorporating more melody and production. Now, with the pending release of their seventh album on their newly formed Heart & Skull label - a joint venture with Epitaph -- the Chicago rockers are heading back to their roots.

"This record is a rock record but our punk rock upbringing definitely shines through, more so than our last few records," singer/guitarist Matt Skiba tells Spinner. "The vibe is similar to our humble beginnings. It's a step forward but I also think it has glimmers of our past in it." To recapture the sound of the early days, Skiba says the band took a simpler approach to recording the album, which will feature 11 tracks and be released in February. While Skiba says there's a little bit of synth on the record and one trumpet solo in the style of Neutra Milk Hotel, not ska-punk, the band mainly kept things straightforward. "We went with a less-is-more approach on this record. A lot of it is just one guitar rather than overdubs or three or four guitars," he says. "We wanted a record that we could easily play live. For the most part, it's pretty bare bones while still sounding full and big."

FRANK TURNER RETURNS TO US FOR "REVIVAL TOUR"

Frank Turner is touring the US in support of his recently released critically raved about third studio album, Poetry of the Deed. Called "his finest work" (Portland Mercury) and his "most consistent record yet" (NME), "Poetry of the Deed is a superb record that should shine a light on Turner not only as a brave new and, most importantly, thoroughly unmanufactured talent in the murky waters of the British singer-songwriter, but as a guy with a guitar slung over his back who can command venues from living rooms to huge concert halls" (BBC Radio 1).

EPITAPH TO RE-ISSUE BLOOD BROTHERS RELEASES

Epitaph Records announces plans to re-issue The Blood Brothers' classic albums "Burn, Piano Island, Burn," "Crimes," "Young Machetes" and "March On Electric Children" on November 17. The CD and digital re-issues will include rare previously unavailable live tracks and videos, music videos and B-sides for the ultimate collectors' edition.

From 1997 to 2007, The Blood Brothers' rocked and riveted critics and fans around the world. Formed in the suburbs of Seattle, the dueling singers Johnny Whitney and Jordan Blilie along with Cody Votolato (guitar), Morgan Henderson (bass) and Mark Gajadhar (drums) crafted a unique style of convulsive, ground breaking hardcore that was quickly embraced by critics and fans of punk, hardcore and indie rock.

Over their ten years in existence the quintet released five critically acclaimed studio albums (four of which Epitaph is re-issuing), including Burn, Piano Island, Burn, "the most prolific, beautiful, and vital statement of rock since the Stooges' Raw Power" (PopMatters, 2003), Crimes, the sturdiest bridge between the hardcore underground and indie-rock elitists" (Alternative Press, 2004) and "one of the best of 2006" (PopMatters, 2006), Young Machetes.

Having moved on to other projects, Whitney and Votolato with indie-rockers Jaguar Love and Blilie, Gajadhar and Henderson with post-punk outfit Past Lives, The Blood Brothers called it quits at their creative peak, leaving behind a catalog the helped define a genre and continues to influence bands around the world.

Music Video: NEW FOUND GLORY - "Don't Let Her Pull You Down"

Pop-punk heroes New Found Glory battle flesh-starved zombie vixens in their new video for "Don't Let Her Pull You Down," debuting today. Directed by Meiert Avis (U2, Bruce Springsteen), the extended music video is a hilariously frightening tale of a young couple who watch a movie about New Found Glory narrowly escaping the clutches of scantily clad zombies, only to realize it's more realistic than they thought.

A limited 7" vinyl single (666 on aqua blue/1334 on orange) featuring "Don't Let Her Pull You Down" and Japanese B-side "I'm The Fool" will be available soon through KingsRoad and on the band's upcoming tour.

New Found Glory Tour Contest Announced

A message from Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory):

Before NFG head out on tour with Dashboard Confessional this fall we will be doing a limited amount of smaller intimate club shows. For the past few years NFG have not been able to hook up local bands due to a full traveling line up. We know how important it is to support local bands and local music scenes. That is how NFG got our start. We use to open locally in South Florida for bands like MxPx, the Get Up Kids, Unwritten Law,Bane etc. Playing those shows helped build our band and build our local scene. This tour will give us an opportunity to finally help out a little.

We ask you to "Tweet" @xchadballx and @steveisdareason some suggestions for local bands to open up the NFG show in their town. Make sure you request bands only for our own headline shows, not the shows we will be playing with Dashboard Confessional. (Tour dates are below)

We do not want to piss any one off or discourage any bands so NFG will not be picking the specific band. We are just compiling a list of bands that we get the most requests for and submitting it to the local promoter to pick.

Also on all of these shows will be a fellow Floridian band called FALLEN FROM THE SKY Pennsylvania's TITLE FIGHT!

OUR LAST NIGHT record new album in December

OUR LAST NIGHT vocalist/guitarist, Matt Wentworth, posted a Myspace blog stating the band has already begin writing new songs and will begin recording in December with producer Andrew Wade in Ocala, FL.

While we have some time off from touring we will be finishing up writing for the new record that we started working on earlier this year. Right now we have 4 songs completely done, and 5 or 6 more in the works or very close to finished. Hopefully we will have around 12 when it's all said and done...

Directly after our tour this Fall with Attack Attack! we will be heading down to Ocala, Florida for the whole month of December to hit the studio with Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, In Fear and Faith, Burden of A Day). Meaning, we should be done with the entire record before the new year.

If you come out to a show this Fall don't be afraid to ask us if you can here some samples/demos of what we've been working on. We've been trying to get as much feedback as possible, especially from our fans.

And as for now I can't quite answer questions regarding when we will be posting new songs and when we will be releasing another album... because I don't actually know yet haha. But hopefully this may give you a better idea.
- Matt

Music Video: EVERY TIME I DIE - "Wanderlust"

Helmed by visionary director Chris Sims (Staind, Norma Jean, Lamb of God), "Wanderlust" is a mind trip set in a dimly lit hotel, where singer Keith Buckley walks along an eerie corridor, opening doorways only to discover the band's grotesque album artwork, drawn by guitarist Jordan Buckley, has it come to life.

"Wanderlust" is featured on Every Time I Die's fifth studio album, New Junk Aesthetic, first with their new label Epitaph Records, and is due out on Sept. 15. The band will be co-headlining the upcoming Epitaph Tour with labelmates Bring Me The Horizon beginning in September.

CONVERGE "Axe to Fall" new album October 20th

Groundbreaking hardcore-metal band CONVERGE will release their long anticipated new studio album, Axe To Fall, on October 20 via Epitaph (vinyl on Deathwish). Considered one of the most intense, important, and influential metal/hardcore bands ever, Converge continue their uncompromising evolution, experimenting and manipulating the fiercest form of music with the most aggressive album of the year, Axe To Fall. Listen to the 1st track "Dark Horse" at Myspace.com/Converge.

Fitting like a puzzle piece in their all but flawless catalog, Axe To Fall is an undeniable progression in the band's canon of cacophonous sound, dexterous skill and ingenious art, as thirteen of the most viciously powerful songs Converge has ever written reign down on listeners in a surge of sonic fury. True to their meticulous DIY style, guitarist Kurt Ballou helmed production duties once again from his infamous GodCity studios in Salem, MA.

Without warning, Converge lets their metal flag fly on Axe To Fall when drummer Ben Koller's galloping beats meet Ballou's lightning fast riffs as bassist Nate Newton provides a pummeling backbone and vocalist Jacob Bannon takes command with menacing growls on the album's shattering opener "Dark Horse." Perhaps Converge's heaviest music they've ever recorded, the foursome invited a slew friends to contribute to the album, and the result was a wall of metal-infused hardcore on a level that's never been heard before.

Songs like the hardcore pit-swirling "Effigy" (feat. Steve Brodsky/Lead guitar, Adam McGrath/Guitar, J.R. Connors/Drums), the furiously relentless neck-breaker "Wishing Well" (feat. Ulf Cederlund/Lead guitar/backing vocals) and the blazing thrash-track "Cutter" (feat. John Pettibone/backing vocals) keep the album moving with power and energy. As defiant as ever, Bannon roars through songs about despair and self-indulgent choices warning that "we'll show the demons for what they are." As the album comes to a close it takes a doom-ridden turn as Neurosis' Steve Von Till shares vocal duties with Bannon on the brooding track "Cruel Bloom" and Genghis Tron's Mookie Singerman providing lead vocals on the beautifully dark post-metal album closer, "Wretched World."

After 19 years as a band, Converge still maintain the steadfast individuality and uncompromising artistic vision they had when they formed. The band has been credited with giving rise to a genre of music and influencing bands worldwide, yet by never wavering have created a sound that is entirely their own.

With the release of Axe To Fall on the horizon, Converge are readying an arsenal of music from their storied catalog to unleash on audiences across the US when they tour with Mastodon, Dethklok and High On Fire in October.

Axe To Fall Tracklist:
1. Dark Horse
2. Reap What You Sow
3. Axe To Fall
4. Effigy

6. Wishing Well
7. Damages
8. Losing Battle
9. Dead Beat

EVERY TIME I DIE'S NEW JUNK AESTHETIC "DELUXE EDITION"

In anticipation of their new album, hard rockers Every Time I Die have announced plans to release a "Deluxe Edition" of their forthcoming album New Junk Aesthetic on Sept 15. The expanded edition of the album features two bonus songs and a DVD entitled "Party Pooper." Pre-orders for the standard CD and "Deluxe Edition" CD/DVD will begin on August 11 here: http://tinyurl.com/mte7lx

New Junk Aesthetic's "Deluxe Edition" will include the bonus tracks "Buffalo 666" and "Goddam Kids These Days," as well as ETID's latest addition to their excrementally themed DVD series called "Party Pooper," which features outrageously funny studio and tour footage spanning two continents and providing hours of non-stop laughter. Watch the trailer here: http://tinyurl.com/p6byrn

"Deciding what two songs to put on the bonus CD was a very difficult and emotionally taxing coin toss," says frontman Keith Buckley. "Get real dudes, all the songs rip. In this case, however, one record couldn't contain the sheer enormity of the riffs. Just think of the bonus CD as a sidecar on a motorcycle where your little buddy who holds onto your weed and guns sits."

1. Roman Holiday
2. The Marvelous Slut
3. Who Invited The Russian Soldier?
