Social Distortion drummer departs for Angels and Airwaves

Due to many foreseeable scheduling conflicts with his band Angels And Airwaves, we regret to announce that Atom Willard will no longer be able to continue on drums for Social Distortion. We know this was not an easy decision for him, but Atom is an incredible individual and we’re all better people for for him, but Atom is an incredible individual and we’re all better people for having him on board while we did. Atom will be sorely missed, but we wish him the very best. having him on board while we did. Atom will be sorely missed, but we wish him having him on board while we did. Rock Band launches new "Network"

MTV Networks and its parent, Viacom, also announced that mobile service provider T-Mobile will be a launch partner for the Network starting next month -- together, the companies will develop an"artist of the month" feature aimed to showcase "new talent" to Rock Band users.

"The Rock Band Network Music Store gives artists at any level the opportunity to reach new fans through our deeply engaging interactive platform," says MTV Networks Music Group SVP of Electronic Games and Music Paul DeGooyer.

Artists who submit songs for the Network can select from multiple pricing tiers per track, and receive 30 percent royalties for every track purchased through the Store Currently more than 100 tracks are available to purchase from artists like The Shins, Of Montreal and more -- commercial artist songs not available through traditional Rock Band track backs may offer songs for sale through the Network.

Some featured bands are:
Between The Buried And Me – “Mordecai”
Winds Of Plague – “Approach The Podium”
Attack Attack! – “Stick Stickly“

Sweden's FRANCIS is coming to SXSW -- check'em out

Swedish band Francis is ready to blow SXSW away with their unique brand of dark, brooding indie-rock. With a new album in the works and a self-titled debut EP just released, American listeners are just now getting a chance to hear what Swedish audiences have been keeping to themselves for some time. Combining incredibly expressive and captivating vocals with Spanish and European-influenced guitar and hypnotic piano texturing, Francis has put their finger on a previously untapped genre of music that is sure to make an impression this SXSW season.

Formed in a section of Dalarna, Sweden that has some of the least yearly sunlight in all of Europe, Francis originally served as an outlet for band members to escape the dreary weather and let off some steam. Now having developed into a full-time gig, Francis is no longer just an escape route, but an exciting and atypical Swedish rock band, a unique combination of folk, blues, and gypsy rock, or what CMJ.com called “folk-rockabily.”

Now, on their way down to Austin for SXSW 2010, Francis is excited to introduce their music to a whole new American audience. With a live performance that will turn the casual fan into a die-hard one, complete with lead-singer Petra wandering through the crowd as she sings, this is sure to be a big festival season for the band. Francis will be performing every day between March 17-21 at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and also at the Swedish embassy in Washington, D.C. on March 22nd. See below for complete tour details.

Francis Show Details:

FORBIDDEN SIGN WITH NUCLEAR BLAST!

It is with great pride that Nuclear Blast proudly announces the signing of legendary Bay Area thrashers FORBIDDEN!

“We are very proud to announce that FORBIDDEN has signed to Nuclear Blast Records! Ultimately, we all knew that there is NO better label in the world to handle Metal and bring it to the masses with authority. For the last year, we have been intensely working on our craft while re-examining our past with a perspective we'd never had before. Our vision is clear and we know exactly who and what we are today. FORBIDDEN is in an amazing creative space and we can't wait for everyone to hear it! We began recording on March 1st.

We must thank Jaap Wagemaker and everyone else at Nuclear Blast for making their enthusiasm known to us since we've committed to writing this record. Also, there are so many other amazing friends that helped us along the way and we appreciate everything you've done for us to get FORBIDDEN back into a position of strength. If you feel in your bones that you are one of them, then you definitely are! Thank you all so much.” – Craig Locicero [guitars], Russ Anderson [vocals], Matt Camacho [bass], Mark Hernandez [drums], and Steve Smyth [bass].

Added Nuclear Blast A&R Manager Jaap Wagemaker: “We are totally stoked to announce that FORBIDDEN has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast!!! It is no secret that the staff of Nuclear Blast has a soft spot for thrash metal! We all grew up here with classics such as Forbidden Evil and Twisted into Form! I am sure you can imagine that we were totally thrilled when we heard the news that FORBIDDEN were coming back and after seeing them live several times since then and seeing them doing a smoking rendition of ‘Twisted into Form’ it was totally clear to us! FORBIDDEN needs a new home and that home is called Nuclear Blast! This feeling became even bigger after Craig had sent us the 2 new songs last year!

Needless to say that a dream is coming true! The future belongs to FORBIDDEN and together with Nuclear Blast, we will bring the band back on the metal map! What the future will bring? I cannot tell you ‘cause it is….. FORBIDDEN!” San Francisco’s FORBIDDEN debuted onto the worldwide scene with their 1988 Combat Records debut, Forbidden Evil, featuring artwork by Kent Mathieu (Heathen/Exhorder/ Autopsy/Artillery). Thirteen years later, they performed live at Chuck Billy & Chuck Schuldiner’s benefit concert, Thrash Of The Titans, on August 11th, 2001 under their demo-name FORBIDDEN EVIL.

To hear two new FORBIDDEN demo tracks, “Adapt Or Die” and “Hopenosis,” visit the band online at: www.myspace.com/FORBIDDEN_EVIL
